    Hot Docs’ Doc Ignite labs are offered in communities across Canada each year. Offering direct market intelligence and skills training, each lab provides filmmakers with professional development curriculum on such topics as audience engagement, marketing and distribution to help successfully launch their films in the marketplace.

    With a focus on reaching under-served regions and communities within Canada, Doc Ignite labs aim to provide new opportunities to filmmakers across all regions of Canada and continue to help them launch sustainable documentary careers.

    Doc Ignite: Writing for Documentaries

    Using successful Hot Docs fund applications as examples, participants will learn what funders are really looking for when evaluating grant submissions and will glean crucial tips on how to make their projects stand out. This workshop will feature a hands-on component, so bring the written materials you’ve prepared for your project and learn how to write your best treatment for grants, funders and pitching.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

    • When registering, please ONLY register ONE person per ticket. Ensure that you register under the name of the person who will be attending the cours

    Presented by Stephanie McArthur:

    Stephanie McArthur is a ten-year veteran of industry programming at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, North America’s largest documentary festival and market. In her role as Industry Programs Manager Stephanie oversees Hot Docs’ Emerging Filmmaker Lab Doc Accelerator, manages Hot Docs’ International Delegation and Alumni programs. Stephanie recently oversaw Hot Docs’ 2018 Documentary Audience Research. Stephanie has been instrumental in the development and launch of several key Hot Docs programs including the Hot Docs Blue Ice Group Documentary Fund for filmmakers living and working on the continent of Africa, and most recently the Canadian Storytellers Project which is supported by Netflix.

    Since 2015 Stephanie has been traveling throughout Canada leading Doc Ignite workshops which offer filmmakers insights into marketing and distribution, market readiness, pitch preparation and festival strategies.
